Hydro-Québec Efficient Heat Pump Program

The only subsidy you can apply for for the installation of heat pumps in Quebec is currently Hydro-Québec’s Logisvert program. It is not necessary to apply to the RénoClimat program to obtain Hydro-Québec’s subsidies. The homeowner can contact Hydro-Québec directly. There are certain criteria to be eligible. The main one is that you must be a homeowner and the work must be done by a certified installer. The heat pump must appear on Hydro-Québec’s list of eligible heat pumps as listed on the Hydro-Québec website. It is very important to check the eligibility criteria before installation.

The application for a Hydro-Québec heat pump subsidy does not require an energy advisor to visit your property. The applicant can submit the application directly to Hydro-Québec and follow up with them to complete their application. The value of the Hydro-Québec subsidy or premium is based on the capacity of the heat pump. In general, for every 1000 BTU per hour at -8°C, there is an allocation of $50. For example, if the heat pump capacity at -8°C is 36,000 BTU/h or 3 tons, a premium of 36x$50 = $1800 will be granted if eligible.

The good news is that the premiums for heat pumps are now much higher than they were before January 2023. Many Carrier, Fujitsu, and GREE heat pumps are eligible for these increased rates. With the new premium structure, you could receive $120 per 1000 BTU/hour instead of the previous $50. For example, a 36,000 BTU/h at -8°C heat pump could earn you a premium of $4,320 (= 36x$120), with some premiums reaching as high as $6,720.

Government financial assistance

Basically, programs such as the federal heat pump subsidy are all aimed at helping people make their homes more energy efficient by adopting better heating systems in Montreal. They offer significant financial assistance, sometimes called heat pump subsidies or grants, to reduce the upfront cost of these improvements. Therefore, homeowners should find out about these programs and how they can benefit from them.

Can you use all of these mentioned programs at the same time? Are these the only financial measures you can use to help you achieve your project? These are very important questions that you should find an answer to before taking serious action on your renovation project.
